Automotive Machined Parts

Montague Manufacturing has been an integral part of the automotive supply chain for decades. We have performed at a high level providing on-time deliveries of machined parts to many of the major Automotive OEM’s through their direct supply chains. Here are some highlights and brief success stories of our capabilities.

Automotive Success Story 1

A Tier One automotive supplier approached us for help amid a significant crisis because they had heard we were capable of ramping up production milling projects in a fraction of the time most suppliers can respond.

Problem

A large automotive supplier was machining critical components on twelve(12) CNC milling centers for our customer and was failing on part quality and delivery. This was jeopardizing our customer’s relationship with their global OEM automotive client.

Solution

Montague was up for the challenge. Fortunately, we have a full scale fixturing and tooling division that was able to design, engineer, and build all the required fixturing needed in four weeks! All production fixtures were up and running in seven weeks on eight(8) high-performance, pallet switching CNC machines. PPAP documentation and run-it-rate confirmations were also completed in eight weeks.

Conclusion

When our customer flew their OEM Automotive client up to our facility to see the process, they were completely stunned by our production capabilities and our quality systems developed for their specific part. When they stood in front of our CMM and watched every part feature being inspected, they turned to our customer with a hardy “well done.” We helped our customer save their relationship with this very important OEM client.

Automotive Success Story 2

A Teir One automotive supplier was ramping up a new platform assembly for one of the Big Three Automotive OEM’s. They were planning on machining a particular aluminum extrusion in house for the assembly and struggled for almost eighteen months trying to make conforming product and achieve the necessary CPK/PPK values and run-it-rates for production.

Problem

With part volumes ramping up and full production deadlines only two months away, our customer reached out and needed us to get four(4) CNC machines completely tooled up and running conforming parts to the required CPK/PPK values to avoid MAJOR issues with their OEM customer.

Solution

Montague immediately went to work, and production tooling and fixtures were expedited to meet this incredibly tight timeline. The aluminum extrusion was very difficult to hold properly, as it deformed under any significant clamping pressure. Montague was able to use their years of process knowledge running extrusions to create milling fixtures that would hold the part firm enough to machine it without deforming it.

Conclusion

In the end, Montague Manufacturing performed the impossible and the customer was able to meet all their delivery timelines to successfully launch the project.
